Chiaroscuro Project
Chiaroscuro- The treatment of light and shade in any one painting or drawing.
Constraints Used- Black and white charcoal, eraser heads.
Size- 18X24
Reflection- This project was a great way to start the year in art class. I felt very confident throughout the project, and was proud of the outcome. The feathers and the flower vase were the most challenging parts of the project for me, yet I persevered through and refined the pieces until I felt they were the best they could be. I enjoyed playing with the value of the different pieces by moving the lamp on different parts of the pieces. Notably, the owl is my personal favorite part of the art piece, and I received a lot of good comments on this piece.
Acrylic Transfer Project
.Acrylic Transfer- The transfer of a xerox picture onto a canvas, using an acrylic gel medium, then adding intricate details using thin layers of watered-down acrylic paint.
Constraints Used- acrylic paint, acrylic medium, ballpoint pen
Size- 10X10
Reflection- This project was especially frustrating and challenging for me because when I first started, I did not see myself as a painter at all. All around me my peers were creating stunning pieces, and this only made me more nervous. I had to start over after I began to paint, and had to supply my own new canvas after this year. After I started over, I began to gain more confidence and gain an overall more positive mental attitude. Although the painting below isn't the best, I am very proud of my work, and I know that I put a lot of effort in to this project.

Title of Piece- City Stream
Song Choice- "Float On" by Modest Mouse

Paragraph of Importance
I chose to create my lyrical painting based on the song "Float On" by Modest Mouse because I have listened to the song for years, and every time I think about the song I smile, and become happier. The way the song feels to me, and the way the beat resonates and makes me happy is why I primarily chose to paint this song. I thought it would create a beautiful piece of work, and that I could have a lot of opportunity using this song. I expressed emotion through my painting and by using this song because as I read through the lyrics and listened to the song. I chose lyrics that really stuck out to my, and that I thought would look well to my painting. I expressed more emotion by painting streaks of paint and charcoal whenever the lyrics I was listening to especially spoke to me as I was working. More importantly, I chose the colors that I chose based on the emotions that were brought to me when listening to "Float On." I chose the colors based on what I thought best captured the lyrics that I chose, and what I was feeling that day. I wanted to also add just about every color, because I like every color on paintings. I think this song also was happy but sad at the
same time, which captures all colors and moods.
