My LINK Internship at Marketing Concepts Squared!
Weekly Logs:
Week 1 Reflection:
Wow! This week was crazy for my internship. I started the week on Tuesday, as I was first involved with an internship at Occasions Bridal Store in Durango, Colorado. I was going to be working on a project called “Fashion Fusion,” teaming up with Occasions. During this project, I was supposed to make a piece of clothing (I was going to make a dress) out of any raw materials you can find like plastic, wood, wire, tile, no fabric allowed! I was nervous and not so sure about this internship because my mentor during the time told me I would have to do this project all by myself, and she would not be able to help me because she was so busy. So on Tuesday I showed Donna, my mentor, a couple concept ideas that I had in mind for what I could create. Donna did not seem to like any of them, so she sent me to Home Depot to get “inspired” for the project. I came back to the store feeling a little bit more inspired and showing Donna a couple more ideas, those of which she started to sound a little more OK with. Donna had told me that an artist was interested in doing the “Fashion Fusion” project at Occasions, and could possibly be my mentor and that I could shadow this artist. She said to come back at 11:00 on Wednesday in order to meet the artist and have a talk about the project as well as possibly make a plan. I left after only a few hours at the store, feeling unhappy and unfulfilled with the project ahead of me, as well as my mentor. I told Janae right away, and she told me not to give up, and that she was going to find something better for me.
Wednesday rolled around and I show up at Occasions on time, more excited to meet this artist, knowing that she might be able to help me out! I walk into the store and there is no artist, only Donna. I was not happy to see that the artist was not there, and Donna told me that the artist was coming into the store later next week with a couple concept designs. Later, I was asked to set up Donna’s brand new sewing machine, and then told that I could leave, as my mentor had nothing else for me to do. After I left, I called Janae immediately, saying that this internship is not going to work out for me, and that I am not interested in what I was doing at all. Since I am interested in Marketing, Janae mentioned on the phone call that she had called Tracy, a woman who used to own an urban house market, and who now markets and sells products for a furniture company called FarmHills. I got excited at the sound of this, and was totally open to working with her. Janae said she was leaving to go out of town soon, and that I could only work for a day or two and that Tracy could set me up with another internship to finish the two weeks off. I was so excited, and I called Tracy after my phone call with Janae to set up a time to come into her home office.
On Thursday, I walked into Tracy’s home office, and started to get to know Tracy! She is a super nice lady, and had tons of ideas for me for the last two weeks of my internship. She told me a little marketing basics, and I told her what interests me about marketing. After working in her home office for a little bit and dropping off FarmHills catalogs to be shipped to furniture stores, we went and got lunch, then came back to the home office. There, Tracy called one of the marketing businesses downtown, MC^2, and asked if they would like an intern for the next two weeks. They were thrilled to have an intern, and said I could come in to talk to them on Friday about the internship. I was so delighted to hear the news, and for the rest of the day I helped Tracy setup a few marketing plans for her trip.
On Friday, I walk into MC^2’s office in Downtown Durango. There were two employees, Jessika, the owner, and Jen, her assistant, both of which were thrilled to meet me. They explained to meet what they do at Marketing Concepts Squared, and how I could help. Jessika had already made a few projects that I could take on over the next couple of weeks, and I am excited about all of them. I will be helping take photographs for the social media accounts they run, studying hashtag trends and which best help the businesses MC^2 represents, and creating a year long social media outline plan to help MC^2 and the companies they symbolize. After taking a few notes and agreeing on what I can work on, made a time for me to come in on Monday and start working.
I am honestly ecstatic about this new internship, and I can’t wait to start working. I think what happened earlier this week is a great lesson for me, and is definitely something I can look back on when I am older. I even think it could be told as a story one day. I have Janae, Tracy, Jessika and Jen to thank for helping me figure my internship out, and making it truly fun!

First Day Selfie!
In this picture, I am outside of Occasions Bridal and Formal Boutique! I am excited to get the ball rolling and see how this project is going to work. I am nervous about working on the Fashion Fusion project...and I do not know what to expect!
Week 2 Reflection:
This week was SO much fun! I am absolutely loving my new internship! My mentors Jessika, Jen, and Nicole are all so friendly and make me feel like I am truly apart of their team. I asked TONS of questions and Jessika has been very helpful with that and willing to do whatever. On Monday, I started by helping Jen, the “Social Media Wiz” by taking a list of the clients that Marketing Concepts Squared represents, and working on their social media accounts. I helped post, share, and like things for each of their accounts like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I learned how to use a helpful tool during this process called HootSuite, which posts on all of your social media accounts at the same time, so you don’t have to post individually. After making sure we got to every client, the rest of the afternoon was spent planning out my LINK project with Jessika. Jessika thought it would be really helpful and a great learning experience for me if I were to create a year long social media plan for each of her clients. In this plan, I highlight three posts per month for a whole year, and create a different plan for each client. These three posts consist of a hashtag focus post, a holiday or local event post, and a promotional, entertaining, contest, etc. post. After hearing about this project, I completely agreed that this would be an awesome project for me to tackle, and that it would be perfect for MC^2 as a whole. For the rest of the week, it was basically project work time for me because I had a lot of clients to get to! Everyday I would check in on the client’s Facebook and Website to see what I could use for my project, and to make sure things were going smoothly for them. Some challenges that I had mostly revolved around trying to come up with content for the promotional post, and trying to list events and holidays that MC^2 could post about for that client. I got stuck multiple times, and felt like I had hit a roadblock. Towards the end of the week, I felt like I have a lot of work done though, and I was proud at what I had accomplished. I had asked Jessika if we could sit down on Friday and look through what I had finished and brainstorm together ideas for the more challenging pieces that I had not finished. Jessika was so helpful, and said I was basically doing everything right so far! She gave me ideas on what to post for the tougher clients that she represents, and a list of events and more holidays I could use for the events post. I would say that I am about 75% done with my LINK project at this point, which feels great! I will finish up the project next week, and refine what I have done. My goals for this next week are to call the clients that we present in order to find out more information about what events they participate in and any other important information about them to finish my project, and to refine what I do have finished. I have been having a lot of fun though, and I think Marketing and Business Management is a great career path that I could potentially follow!

Here I am with my new mentor, Jessika, super excited to be at my new internship!
Last Week Reflection:
This week has been good and bad at the same time, as I had to end a great internship, but I am happy at how fun and amazing this internship turned out to be! I was so surprised at how much work goes into the things that Marketing Concept Squared does, and how much time it took me to complete my LINK Internship Project. I was so happy to see how the project ended up, and my mentor, Jessika, was thrilled to see the quality of work I had produced, and told me that the project would be very helpful to her business. This project contributed a lot to Marketing Concepts Squared, and is going to help them with what to post for the next year! I have completely finished the project, and I am excited to show it during LINK exhibition. When I wrote my Pre-LINK Reflection and Anticipation, I was expecting to be completing this fashion project through a Bridal Store, and I did not expect to end up at MC2 at all! After setting up the new internship, I expected an enjoyable, challenging, and entertaining experience that had a lot of hard work involved in it. To say the least, I was right about the internship!
I definitely had some personal learning experiences, and most of them involved thinking about my future, and what I might be interested in as a career path. When I first came into LINK, I completely thought that I would only be interested in fashion, and I was determined to find an internship in the fashion industry. Through this internship with MC2, I have discovered that I really like Marketing and Business, and that I might want to study these two things in college. This internship has not only opened up my mind into looking at new subjects to study in the future, but it has also opened my eyes to the social media world. Since I had worked so much in the social media world, I have come to realize that social media is not only a great communication tool, but it is also very important to many businesses for reaching out to customers. I learned how to find trending hashtags and apply them to each business that MC2 represents, how to post, share, and like for each business on their social media accounts, and finally, how to create a year-long social media posting outline for each of the businesses. It was challenging to find content for each customer to put into the social media outline project, but I overcame this challenge with the help of my my mentor and co worker. Through this project, I mastered how to use google excel sheets, and how to make a beautiful project within google sheets.
As I stated before, this internship has opened up an entirely new path for me in my life, and I am so grateful for that. Because of this internship, I am looking at new colleges to apply to, and new paths of study that involve marketing and business. In addition, I may be able to get a part-time job this summer at Marketing Concepts Squared, and learn even more about Marketing, while getting paid! I am so thankful for this entire experience, and I will remember this internship for the rest of my life!

Last Day Selfie!
Last Day! :( In this picture, I was so happy that I got this internship and that I was able to learn tons of new things and have such an AWESOME Internship, but I was so sad that it was already over. The difference between this picture and my first day picture is that I am in a completely new internship, and I am a lot more happier with where I ended up. In my first picture, I was about to start a fashion project at a Bridal Store in Durango, and in this picture, I am at Marketing Concepts Squared with my mentor, Jessika.
